Put Hillman City on the map!

HCNA has a year-round calendar of events as well as on-going projects and initiatives.

Bi-annual community clean-ups are supplemented with a YWe gardening internship.

In 2024, the HCNA board applied for, and was awarded, a City of Seattle Neighborhood Match Fund grant focusing on Hillman City’s business district.  The grant funded:

  • Development of a social gathering space

  • Installation of murals around the neighborhood

WHAT’s GOOD: The Hillman City Block Party

Founded in 2024 as a way to bring free, all-agree programming to South Seattle’s coolest neighborhood while supporting our locally-owned small businesses.  What’s Good showcases local musicians, artists and business owners by inviting Seattle to come spend the day in Hillman City.  A morning full of kids’ programming (also free) transitions to live music and quirky business open houses and community events.  New for 2026 - the revival of the Rainier Valley Heritage Car Show!

Where HCNA came from:

In early 2017, a group of neighbors came together to form the Hillman City Neighborhood Association (HCNA) in response to shared concerns about housing affordability and economic development.  The goal was to strengthen neighborhood connections and find meaningful ways to address local issues.

HCNA quickly became a hub for community engagement, hosting public meetings to discuss public safety, city transportation plans and local business development.  Regular community clean-ups and a Seattle City Council candidate forum became valued traditions - ones that continue to this day!

Post-Covid, a reenergized HCNA board set it sights on deepening community ties.  A neighborhood census was launched to improve communication between neighbors and gather input on the issues and projects that mattered most.  Public meetings resumed, a monthly newsletter was added and new social activities were introduced to bring neighbors together and foster a stronger, more connected Hillman City.

Where we are headed:

At the Hillman City Neighborhood Association’s March meeting, we presented our plan for 2026.

Have an idea for us?  Or a new program or initiative for HCNA to pursue?  Let us know!
