In early 2017, a group of neighbors came together to form the Hillman City Neighborhood Association (HCNA) in response to shared concerns about housing affordability and economic development. The goal was to strengthen neighborhood connections and find meaningful ways to address local issues.
HCNA quickly became a hub for community engagement, hosting public meetings to discuss public safety, city transportation plans and local business development. Regular community clean-ups and a Seattle City Council candidate forum became valued traditions - ones that continue to this day!
Post-Covid, a reenergized HCNA board set it sights on deepening community ties. A neighborhood census was launched to improve communication between neighbors and gather input on the issues and projects that mattered most. Public meetings resumed, a monthly newsletter was added and new social activities were introduced to bring neighbors together and foster a stronger, more connected Hillman City.
At the Hillman City Neighborhood Association’s March meeting, we presented our plan for 2026.
Have an idea for us? Or a new program or initiative for HCNA to pursue? Let us know!
